Top 7 Remedies to Get Rid of Brown Spots on Skin

Spots that have begun to show on your skin, on face, neck or behind the hands and arms or any other place may be age spots if they are oval and flat on the skin and have brown, black, or gray color. A spot that is only freckle sized or go on to be as long as one centimetre, all of them are unwanted on your skin. They don’t let you feel good even if no one else notices them (or ignore them even noticed). So, the easy way out to feel good from within is to get rid of these brown spots on your skin. Certain home remedies may be your saviour for this purpose!

How to Get Rid of Brown Spots on Skin

1. Lemon Juice for Lightening those Brown Spots

Whether it is your dark neck or dark underarm or even age spots, lemon comes handy in bleaching your skin, naturally. The citric acid of lime juice may do wonders with your skin and make it lighter while diminishing the brown spots on your skin. You just have to take precautions if your skin is sensitive. If such is the case, dilute lime juice in water or rose water and then apply it on your skin spots. Also, do not go out in sun after applying lemon juice on skin. This might render your skin darker than before! So, now if you are ready to use lime on your skin, here are some ways to do so.

  • Rub a slice of lemon on your brown spots for 10-15 minutes daily, twice a day and then wash off with water.
  • If you can’t let your hands engaged in rubbing slices, take out the juice from lemon and apply it on spots, leave for about 20 minutes and then wash with water.
  • Mix a little sugar to lime juice and rub the area with spots with this mixture. Lime juice will bleach the skin and sugar granules will exfoliate it.
  • Add 1 tsp of turmeric to 3 tsp of lemon juice and apply on brown spots region. Wash off after 30 minutes.
  • You may even mix 4 tsp of lemon juice with the juice of 2 tomatoes and apply on brown spots only to wash after half an hour.

And yes, don’t expect lemon to do magic in a week or so. Keep using it for at least two to three months to let your skin tone get lighter.

2. Use Skin Friendly Herb Aloe Vera

Aloe vera, by far is the most skin friendly herb. It keeps your skin hydrated and fresh and young too. So, it may be the best remedy for age spots for you. You may have a plant at home and can take out fresh aloe vera gel from its leave to apply on brown spots. If that’s not possible, buy aloe vera gel from any store or even online. Here’s how to use aloe gel for your brown age spots.

  • Cut an aloe vera leaf.
  • Press a little with your fingers to take out the gel.
  • Apply on brown spots.
  • It may feel a little sticky but it’s OK.
  • Just leave for about 30 minutes and wash off with water.

Do it twice a day for about a month or even longer if your skin needs some more time to lighten down.

3. Make a Gramflour Pack for Brown Spots Removal

Now, this is something really good for your brown spots, I mean to remove your age spots. This pack or mask, whatever you call it, contains almost all the things that may lighten your skin to help get rid of brown spots. So here’s the recipe!

You will need:

  • Gram flour (chickpea flour)- 2 Tsp
  • Milk or curd (use curd for dry skin)- 1 Tsp
  • Lemon juice- of half a lime (don’t throw the half lemon slice after taking out the juice)
  • Tomato juice- 1 Tsp
  • Turmeric- 2 pinches
  • Castor/ Almond Oil- a couple of drops
  • Rose water- as per need

PS- You may alter the quantity for an area covered by spots (more quantity for a larger area)

Directions:

  • Squeeze out the lime juice from half of the lemon slice.
  • Take a little rose water in a small bowl and dip the empty lemon slice in it.
  • Mix gram flour, milk/curd, lime juice, tomato juice and turmeric to make a paste.
  • Apply the paste on a region where you have spots.
  • Leave it for about 20 minutes or till the time it dries off.
  • Once it dries, take two-three drops of castor/almond oil on your fingers and start scrubbing the skin with it taking off the paste. Do it gently. Don’t apply force if it doesn’t come out.
  • After scrubbing for about 3-5 minutes, take the lemon rind dipped in rose water and rub the area with it.
  • Once the paste comes off skin, wash the region with water.

Initially do the whole process twice, or at least once, daily for about 10 days. Then continue once or twice a week till the time you get glowing skin with lightened or no brown spots.

4. Buttermilk for Spotless Skin

Ayurveda, the age-old Indian medicinal system, gives utmost importance to buttermilk which keeps your body cool when you have it. The lactic acid of buttermilk even helps the skin to stay refreshed and lighter in tone. If you can’t get it in a market, make buttermilk at home. Mix a little warm water to curd and churn it till the time it leaves all its cream. Remove the cream. The thin liquid which you are left with after removing the cream is buttermilk.

  • Take this buttermilk in a bowl.
  • Dip a cotton ball in it.
  • Squeeze a little to drop off the excessive buttermilk.
  • Apply buttermilk on your skin with spots with the help of this cotton ball.
  • Leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.

If your’s is oily skin or acne prone skin, mix a little lime juice to buttermilk before applying it to your skin.

5. Yogurt for Easy Brown Spot Remedy

If you don’t want to take pains to make buttermilk, use yogurt as it is. After all, buttermilk derives its lactic acid from curd only. This acid can make your skin lighter by many tones provided you use it for longer. Make a yogurt pack for better and fast results.

You will need:

  • Plain yogurt- 1 tablespoon
  • Ground oatmeal- 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh lime juice- 1 teaspoon

Directions:

  • Mix yogurt, oatmeal and lime juice to make a paste.
  • Apply the paste to the skin having brown spots.
  • Leave for half an hour.
  • Wash with cold water.
  • If needed, apply some moisturizer.

Do it daily for a week and then twice a week for 2-3 months to get the best results.

6. Horseradish for Spotless Skin

Horseradish is another herb that can do wonders for you. You can get spotless skin but then its a work of patience to make a concoction with horseradish. However, when you want extraordinary results, you need to put in extraordinary efforts too!

You will need:

  • Horseradish piece- 4-5 inches long
  • Apple Cider Vinegar- half a cup
  • A storage container, preferably a bottle or glass container.

Directions:

  • Grate horseradish.
  • Add the grated herb to apple cider vinegar.
  • Mix well and leave for 2 weeks.
  • However, you need to shake the mix once daily.
  • After two weeks, strain the herbed vinegar into your storage container.
  • Apply a little amount to your freckles.
  • Store the rest of the vinegar in the refrigerator.
  • Apply a small amount of it thrice a day for a month at least.

Great tips, yes…but am I the only one who noticed that in the instructions, she will say for example, "squeeze out juice of lemon, then apply LIME juice to brown spots"??? Is this to mean they can be used interchangeably, or are they mistakes? "Helpful hints" are much more helpful if they are well written! Quite confusing.
