Home Remedies to Rid of Black Spots

1. Lemon Juice for Black Spots on Your Face

Lemon juice has loads of citric acid in it and this acid has great beauty benefits. Citric acid not only helps shed dead skin cells but also lead to growth of new cells, giving you a brighter skin. This alleviates the problems of age spots along with acne scars, wrinkles and uneven tone and texture of your skin. This remedy may, however, give you a slight burning, tingling, and temporary redness. To see whether you can tolerate this acid, test with some lemon juice in your inner elbow skin. If its all right even after 8-12 hours, go ahead with this remedy to get rid of black spots on your face.

Get this:

  • Lemon juice
  • Cotton ball

Do this:

  • Pour some lemon juice on the cotton ball.
  • Now apply this juice to your black spots.
  • Let it dry off on its own.
  • Wash your face with water and moisturize it.

Do not step out in sun after applying lemon juice as it makes your skin more sensitive to the sun rays that can further damage your skin.

2. Parsley Face Mask for Black Spots on Your Face

Here is a face mask recipe using parsley along with lemon juice and honey. How to Make Parsley Face Mask for Black Spots on Face?

Get this:

  • Head of parsley (medium sized)- 1
  • Fresh lemon juice- 1 tsp (only ½ tsp if you have dry skin and no lemon juice if ultra sensitive skin)
  • Raw honey- 2 tsp

Do this:

  • Thoroughly wash the parsley with warm water.
  • Chop the parsley.
  • Crush the parsley using mortar and pestle to get its paste.
  • Add lemon juice and honey to parsley paste and mix well.
  • Now wash your face and pat dry.
  • Apply the parley mask all over your face leaving out the area around your eyes.
  • Leave it for about 15 minutes.
  • Then wash it off with water and apply some moisturizer.
  • Repeat 1-2 times a week.

3. Hummus Remedies for Black Spots on Your Face

Now this is something many people don’t know. Hummus, which is a food dip or spread made with Garbanzo beans is one of the very good remedies for black age spots on your face. Garbanzo beans flour also known as chickpea or gram flour, is extensively used in Middle Eastern and Indian cooking. When it comes to skin care, this flour is considered to be a very good exfoliating agent. It helps remove dead skin from your face and even out its tone removing any marks and giving you a lightened skin. To use this remedy for black spots on face, you first need to make the basic hummus and then mix it with some other ingredients that help remove dark spots. So, let’s first get the recipe of basic hummus and then other remedies using this hummus to get rid of black facial spots.

Make Basic Hummus first

Get this:

  • Garbanzo beans- 1 cup
  • Tahini- ¼ cup
  • Water

Do this:

  • Cook the garbanzo beans.
  • Using a food processor, blend the cooked beans to get its paste.
  • Mix tahini with the beans paste.
  • Add enough water to this mixture so that you may get a consistency similar to a thick pudding.

Now use one of the below ways to use this hummus for your black spots.

Ways to Use Hummus to Remove Black Spots on Face

  1. Add juice of one lemon in 1 cup of hummus. Use half a lemon for ½ cup of hummus and so on. Apply this to your face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with water.
  2. Take 1 cup of hummus and add juice of 1 onion to this. Mix 1-2 tsp of apple cider vinegar to this. Mix well and apply to your face. Leave for half an hour and then wash it off.
  3. Take 5-6 garlic cloves and crush them to get a garlic paste. Mix this with enough amount of hummus to cover your black spots on face. Apply to the affected area and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off.

4. Buttermilk for Black Spots on Your Face

Buttermilk made out of churned curd or butter has a lots of lactic acid. If you don’t know, then you must know that lactic acid is one of the acids that is used in chemical peels to give you a lighter and brighter skin. Lactic acid helps slough off the dead skin cells helping you to reduce the spots on your face. Why not use cheap and natural buttermilk rather than expensive chemical peel to get rid of black spots then!


Get this:

  • Buttermilk- 4-5 tsp
  • Fresh juice of tomatoes- 2 tsp

Do this:

  • Mix buttermilk and tomato juice. Tomato juice has excellent bleaching properties and will thus enhance the skin lightening capacities of buttermilk.
  • Apply this mixture to your black spots.
  •  Leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.

5. Potatoes for Black Spots on Your Face

Potatoes are rich in vitamins and minerals, essential fatty acids and a variety of phytochemicals such as carotenoids and polyphenols. With all its treasures of Vitamin-C, B-complex, as well as minerals like potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and zinc, potatoes are able to stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis. This gives you an evenly toned complexion. In fact, potato juice is one of the best remedies for dark spots due to its skin lightening properties. Many natural enzymes, sugars and starches of potatoes along with its vitamin C, exfoliate your skin to slough off the dead cells and thus diminishing the black spots.

Get this:

  • Potatoes- 2-3
  • Lemon juice-3-4 drops
  • Honey- ½ to 1 tsp

Do this:

  • Grate the potatoes and extract their juice using a cloth or a sieve.
  • Add lemon juice and honey to this.
  • Apply this to your face.
  • Leave for about 20 minutes.
  • Wash it off with water.

6. Rosehip Oil for Black Spots on Your Face

Rosehip oil is known as the best essential oil for anti-aging remedies. It can remove age spots or the black spots on your face too. It is rich in vitamin A which rejuvenates your skin. But what is more important for pigmentation due to which you get black spots, is the presence of vitamin C in this oil. Rosehip oil is also an excellent emollient and moisturizer which gives you soft, smooth, and hydrated skin.

How to Use Rosehip Oil for Black Spots on Face?

This oil can be directly applied to your skin. It penetrates the skin easily and give nourishment to your skin from within so that you get rid of all kinds of blemishes, scars and dark spots on your face. Apply 2-3 drops of this oil to your face and massage for some time. Do this twice a day and continue doing this for about at least 2 months. You may also mix rosehip oil with some carrier oil such as almond or jojoba oil and then apply this to your face.

7. Watermelon Rind for Black Spots on Your Face

Now this is not only a home remedy but also a way to use something that you will, any way, throw away. Watermelon is known as one of the best dark spot remedies due to its rich sources of moisture, fiber, vitamins A, B and C. The cool and soothing pulp of watermelon helps reduce sun damaged skin spots. However, you need not save the pulp to apply to your black spots. Just use the watermelon rind.

Do this:

  • Take a manageable piece of watermelon rind.
  • Rub the inner side of this rind on your face so that the juice gets transferred to your skin.
  • Do this for few minutes and then leave it for sometime before washing off.
  • Repeat 2-3 times a week.

8. Almond Oil for Black Spots on Face

Almond oil is one of the oils that is very good for skin issues including dark spots. It contains unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins E, B2, B6, PP along with various minerals and phytosterols. These nutrients help you get an even toned skin complexion and helps a lot in removing blemishes and black spots. It also protects your skin from harmful sunrays due to the presence of vitamin E in it.

Get this:

  • Sweet almond oil- 1-2 tsp
  • Lemon juice (optional)- 2-3 drops

Do this:

  • Warm up the almond oil using indirect heat. You can use double boiler or just take the oil in a stainless steel bowl and place this bowl in a bigger bowl half full of hot water. In a couple of minutes, the oil will be warmed up.
  • Gently massage your face with this oil for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Do this every night before you go to sleep.
  • Continue doing this for about 2 weeks or so. There is no harm if you do it more than this period too.
  • You may also add some lemon juice to the warmed up oil for enhancing its capacity of removing dark spots.

9. Turmeric for Black Spots on Your Face

Turmeric has been used since ages in some countries like India, not only for its health benefits but also for its excellent skin care abilities. Circumin is the active ingredient of turmeric which gives the herb spice its fine antioxidant properties. Antioxidants can protect your skin and other body cells from getting damaged by the free radicals formed due to oxidative stress. Free radicals are mostly responsible for pre mature aging and giving you age spots.

Get this:

  • Turmeric- 1 tsp
  • Milk- 1-2 tbsp
  • Lemon juice- few drops

Do this:

  • Take the turmeric and add milk to this in drizzle so that you put only such amount of milk in it which is enough to make a paste.
  • Add lemon juice to this.
  • Apply this to your face or only on the black spots affected area.
  • Leave it there for 10-15 minutes.
  • Wash off with lukewarm water. You may also use a very gentle soap.
  • Take care when handling turmeric as it leaves stains.

10. Papaya for Black Spots on Your Face

There is an enzyme in papaya called papain. This enzyme lends the fruit its excellent properties to exfoliate skin and slough off the dead skin cells. Not only this, papaya also helps grow new skin cells to give you a brighter skin tone. Papain enzyme also works to inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase used by pigment-producing skin cells use to create melanin that gives you black spots. Green papaya or the raw papaya contains more papain than the ripe papaya. However, both of these are beneficial in getting rid of dark spots. Here are the two ways to use ripe and raw papaya for black spots.

1st Way to Use Papaya for Black Spots on Face- Ripe Papaya Mask

  • Get some ripe papaya pulp.
  • Mash it properly.
  • Apply this to your face.
  • Leave it for 20 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.
  • Repeat daily.

2nd Way to Use Papaya for Black Spots on Face- Green Papaya Mask

Get this:

  • Raw green papaya
  • Lemon juice

Do this:

  • Grate the green papaya. You may also blend it to get the paste.
  • Add a few drops of lemon juice to this.
  • Mix well and apply this to your black spots affected area of your face.
  • Leave it for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.

11. Aloe Vera for Black Spots on Your Face

Aloe vera is the best gift for your skin given by the nature. Aloe vera has anti-septic, analgesic and skin soothing properties along with excellent moisturizing capabilities. It is just a miraculous herb that can reduce skin pigmentation, sun tan, skin rash, premature aging, acne and pimples, dry flaky skin, dark black spots, pimple marks, acne scars and any other blemishes that you may have on your skin. You may either directly apply pure aloe gel on your spots or make one of the below masks to get rid of the ugly black spots on your face.


1st Way to Use Aloe Vera for Black Spots- Aloe Tomato Mask

This is especially beneficial for dark spots due to acne or pimples.
Get this:

  • Aloe vera gel- 1 tbsp
  • Tomato juice- 2 tbsp

Do this:

  • Mix aloe vera gel and tomato juice.
  • Gently massage your face with this mixture for 2-3 minutes focusing more on the black spots.
  • After massaging, take some more mixture and apply this to your face like a mask.
  • Leave it for 20 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.
  • Repeat 2-3 times a week initially and then once a week.

2nd Way to Use Aloe Vera for Black Spots- Aloe Orange Lemon Mask

Get this:

  • Aloe vera gel- 2 tbsp
  • Orange peel powder- 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice- 1 tbsp

Do this:

  • Mix aloe gel, orange peel powder and lemon juice to make a paste.
  • Apply this to your face.
  • Leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with cold water.

3rd Way to Use Aloe Vera for Black Spots- Aloe Papaya Mask

Get this:

  • Aloe vera gel- 2 tbsp
  • Ripe papaya pulp- 2 tbsp

Do this:

  • Combine aloe gel and papaya pulp.
  • Mix them well.
  • Massage your face with this for 2-3 minutes.
  • Apply some more mixture to your face.
  • Leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with cold water.

4th Way to Use Aloe Vera for Black Spots- Aloe Honey Mask

Get this:

  • Aloe vera gel- 2 tbsp
  • Honey 1 tbsp

Do this:

  • Mix aloe vera gel and honey.
  • Clean your face and apply this mixture to your face.
  • Massage for 2 minutes.
  • Leave for about 15 minutes.
  • Wash off with lukewarm water.

12. Onion Juice for Black Spots on Face

Onion juice is acidic in nature which make sit a natural skin-lightening remedy. Its acidity makes it a good natural bleaching agent. Some people mix apple cider vinegar with onion juice to make it all the more effective for black spots.

Get this:

  • Onion – 1-2

Do this:

  • Grate the onions to get its pulp.
  • Squeeze out the juice from the onion pulp.
  • With the help of a cotton ball, apply this onion juice to your black spots affected area.
  • Leave it there for 5-10 minutes.
  • Wash off with water.
  • Repeat daily.

If you feel stinging sensation with raw onion juice, mix some honey to it and then apply to your face.

13. Oatmeal Lemon Juice Mask for Black Spots on Face

Oatmeal contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe your skin in more efficient ways than you can imagine. If you have an acne prone skin and suffer from dark spots due to this problem, oatmeal becomes all the more important for you. It absorbs oil from form your skin along with exfoliating the skin to shed dead skin cells. This may thus get you rid of black spots.

Get this:

  • Rolled oats- ½ cup
  • Lemon juice- 3-4 tbsp

Do this:

  • Grind the oats to get its powder.
  • Add lemon juice to this and mix well to make a paste.
  • Apply this to our face and rub gently focusing more on black spots ridden areas.
  • Do this for few minutes and then leave for a couple of minutes.
  • Wash off with lukewarm water once it dries down.
  • If this sticks to your skin, take a clean cloth and wet it with warm water. Rub your face gently with this cloth to remove the oats scrub from your face.
  • Repeat 2 times a week to get rid of black spots on your face.

  11. Lots of good suggestions… But remember when using citrus (LEMON) avoid sun exposure for about 24-72 hours as the skin will be more sensitive to sunburn.
